Banteay Srei Temple

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Banteay Srei is one of the finest examples of the temples in and around Siem Reap. The temple has been fully restored and the unusual pink stone stands it apart from the other temples around the region. It’s carvings are said to be some of the finest stone anywhere on earth and, although I’m no expert, they are truly amazing. Whereas most of the temples in this region were commissioned by a king, this one is thought to have been commissioned by a Brahman. It’s carvings depict a life centuries ago. Banteay Srei is also much smaller than the other temples. This temple is a most interesting drive through Cambodian villages and about 32 kilometres from Siem Reap. I went back to see this outstanding temple again. Put it on your list!
