Bethpage State Park Golf Course

New York City, New York, United States of America

Bethpage is one of the few municipal courses to achieve top 100 status, greeting you with one of golf most famous boards:  “WARNING – The Black Course Is An Extremely Difficult Course Which We Recommend Only For Highly Skilled Golfers.” If a US Open layout is not for you, try one of the other 4 courses on the park, otherwise man up and prepare to play one of the finest parkland layouts America has to offer. The A.W. Tillinghast designed course features his perfectly placed signature bunkers in extra large size, it is well wooded and the rough is always long.  It does, however, offer some of the flattest, easy greens in the country and you can look forward to dropping some long putts – if you can get to the green. There are many great holes and a variety of opinions on which is the best. The long par 4 15th is certainly unique. A tight fairway leaves you with a second into an elevated green – almost 4 stories above the level of your lie. Try to avoid the four giant bunkers on the face of the hill it sits on. The course has a reputation of being really hard to get into with long lines of golfers, eager to pay homage. New York residents are able to book up to a week in advance – make use of your friends and contacts.
