Cable Car Museum

San Francisco, California, United States of America

User Rating     : 4 out of 5

Everyone loves riding the cable cars in San Francisco, how could you not? Well, one of the best tourist values in the city is the free admission to the famous San Francisco Cable Car Museum. And one of the best parts about visiting the museum is being able to look at the huge wheels and engines working to pull the cable cars up and down San Francisco’s steep hills. Amazing. You can also see three antique cable cars, learn how cable cars work, see vintage photographs, and just feel the history of the city and its picturesque cable cars. After your visit, make sure to browse around the gift shop. Great finds there include purchasing a real cable car bell, the same as the ones you see on the actual cable cars! You can also buy a Conductor’s Bell as well as model cable cars, cable car charms, and hats. Cable Car Museum 1201 Mason Street San Francisco, California 94108

Pretty neat museum and very educational. While not the best attraction we saw in San Francisco, it was a fun way to spend an hour or two and learn about the history of the city's cable cars. Many neat trinkets in the gift shop.

My train mad son loved this museum! It wasn't about his beloved steam trains, but apparently it ranks right up there beside them! If compared with some of the other tourist attactions we visited in California, it didn't have much of a wow factor as far as thrills and spills go. However, as we walked around the museum and looked at all the various exhibits and bits of cable car history, the one word I heard most from my son was "Wow"! To me, that's wow factor enough!
