Cappadocia Mountain Biking

Cappadocia, Turkey

A trip to Cappadocia is an opportunity to combine world-class mountain biking, for any skill level, with the wonders of a region unlike any other.

Home to the Cappadocia International Mountain Bike Festival and Race, the region offers riding advanced enough to challenge the pros, but many of the tracks are non-technical and suitable for the beginner mountain biker.

As you pedal, gaze about in awe at a peculiar moonscape formed from ancient, porous, volcanic rock called ‘tufa’. While cruising the smooth, hard-packed trails that pass through lush orchards and vineyards and connect villages, marvel at fanciful spires, mounds and canyon formations engraved by erosion of the tufa, as well as dwellings carved directly into the rock, some of them still inhabited.

Take time to absorb the history of the region. Stop at Göreme’s Open Air Museum to view the frescoes painted on cave walls by a Christian community of the Roman period or take a tour of one of the underground Hittite cities of the Bronze Age. Finish your days with the finest of Turkish cuisine and local wines, then sleep in the quiet, peacefulness of a cave hotel.
