La Romana, Dominican Republic
A golf course rated in the top fifty in the world is enticing to any golfer. Add a bit of sundrenched Caribbean magic and you have a little slice of golfing heaven. Located at the Casa de Campo resort on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Teeth of the Dog is the best of three challenging courses around the hotel. Boasting 300 luxury rooms with some overlooking the golf course, this is regarded as the leading resort in the Caribbean. There is a great variety of entertainment here to keep the non-golfers happy while the course is happily explored too.
Designed by top golf architect Pete Dye, this is said to be his finest course. Seven holes hug the rugged Caribbean coastline and players are entertained with sea views throughout the course. The par four 17th is built along the dramatic cliffs which look like canine teeth and give rise to the name of the course. The short 7th hole is regarded by many as a favourite on the course. Similar to signature holes on many other top courses, both the tee and green are set against the rolling surf. The difference at Teeth of the Dog is that both are virtually at the level of the water at high tide, waves crashing around, to the side and ahead of you when standing on the tee. It’s a dramatic hole and one you are sure to remember.
