Cat Cat Village

Sapa, Vietnam

Reaching Cat Cat Village is an easy, downhill walk of around 3 kilometres from the township of Sapa. When you do a loop trip, walking downhill (which I always enjoy) is always tinged with the thought that you will, at some stage, have to walk back uphill, but not here. Guys on motor cycles line up to take tourists back up the steep hill for a small fee. Negotiate it before accepting! Unlike many of the other trips, you do not need a guide to do this as it’s straightforward. You walk down the road and then down the numerous steps into the small village. It’s a very pretty walk out in the wonderfully fresh mountain air. I really admired the use of bamboo piping to divert some of the water. At the bottom, near the beautiful waterfall there are a few places selling trinkets. It’s well worth the walk. However, I highly recommend you do walks or treks to see other minority groups in the area as well.
