Mount Gambier, South Australia, Australia
Crater Lakes of Mount Gambier offer ideal areas for recreational activities for the whole family. Comprising the famous Blue Lake, the Valley Lake Crater, the Leg of Mutton Crater and Browns Lake these crater lakes are part of the Kanawinka Geopark. The Valley Lake is very popular for water sports and is used all year round. There are large grassed picnic areas with free gas barbecues and covered shelters and boasts a well equipped playground for the kiddies. Both Browne’s Lake and Leg of Mutton Lake are now dry due to low rain over the last 30-40 years as they were back in the 1800’s. The area comprises some good walking trails of varying distances with natural bush areas and an abundance of wildlife. Some good photographic opportunities are to be had here. This area is a wonderful place to escape the summer heat or to enjoy a BBQ in winter. Situated to the south of the city, take Davison Drive off Bay Road.
