Croatia Mountain Biking

Looking for a multi-day mountain bike journey that combines the adventure of a coast-to-coast ride with travel through historic locations, varied terrain and lovely food, wine and weather? The formerly embattled Croatia is an ideal location for a coast-to-coast tour that offers stunning countryside, pedalling through the wine producing region of Istria and ending along the shores of the Adriatic Sea.

Starting at the beachside town of Novigrad on the Croatian Mediterranean seafront, spin through vineyards, olive groves and medieval villages on your way to the old, provincial capital of Pazin. Refresh yourself in Pazin; enjoy the wine and quiescent charm of this old-world village, before setting out towards the more mountainous terrain that leads, eventually, to your descent towards picturesque, Adriatic waters.

Eastward out of Pazin, wend your way through woodland and mountain on dry, rocky singletrack that requires attention, skill and fitness. If self-guided, carefully navigate the network of singletrack paths that crisscross the range of hills and mountains and lead to the coastal areas.

A final descent into the seaside town of Lovran, followed by a refreshing swim in the waters of the Adriatic, is the culmination of this tour.

Before setting out, make sure that your bike handling skills are adequate, that your kit is up to a multi-day test and that you are fit. A GPS and good maps will help you safely navigate to your destination.
