Deckchair Cinema

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

The Deckchair Cinema is a unique way to watch great movies! Operated by the Darwin Film Society, it is an independent and often screens films that would normally not be available to local audiences. This outdoor cinema is close to Darwin Harbour and it is wonderful to relax and watch the sunset whilst waiting for the film to start. Many people arrive early and have a picnic dinner. There is a kiosk that sells snacks, drinks and alcoholic beverages, as well as Deckchair merchandise. During the dry season, the Deckchair Cinema runs seven nights a week, with the kiosk and box office opening at 6.30pm. There are 250 deckchairs and about 100 straight-backed chairs available, but it is advisable to bring your own pillow or cushion for extra comfort. Getting there is easy as it is a nice stroll along the Esplanade. There is free parking available in the car park in Jervois Road.
