Dingle Peninsula

Dingle, Ireland

The Dingle Peninsula is a famous walking area in Ireland popular with visitors and a wonderful way to appreciate the coastline and rural areas of the Emerald Isle. Tralee is the start and end point for the Dingle Way which is a 153km circular walk which includes most towns and villages on the peninsula and has both coastal paths and hill walks. It swings over to Camp and then with sweeping views over Dingle Bay to Dingle itself.

The Blasket Islands can be seen as walkers trek over Dunquin, and then the walk tracks back to Smerwick Harbour before ascending Ireland’s second highest peak at Brandon Mountain. Walkers then take a high pass to the village of Cloghane and then a route past coastal beaches to Castlegregory and the Maharees before returning to Tralee.

A shorter walk lasting 18km and connecting the early Christian sites is the Pilgrim’s Route. Early Christianity is a feature of the Dingle Peninsula. Other very short historic routes enable visitors to walk round some of the local antiquities sites. Finally every village will have a welcoming pub with traditional music, local beer and whisky and some excellent craic.
