Dyrehavsbakken

Copenhagen, Denmark

Would you like to visit the world’s oldest operating amusement park? Then take a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, to visit Dyrehavsbakken, commonly referred to as Bakken. It is also the second most popular tourist attraction in Denmark. It has been open, in some amusement park capacity, since 1583.

It may hve ancient roots, but today Bakken is home to a thriving, modern theme park. Currently, it offers five roller coasters, the most famous of which is the Rutschebanen. Open since 1932, it is a wooden coaster that has been given the honour of being named an American Coaster Enthusiasts ‘Coaster Classic’.

Bakken has more to offer than roller coasters, of course. There are the usual carnival-style games and the typical amusement park rides suitable for all ages. Bakken is also home to numerous performances daily. The park’s mascot, Pjerrot the Clown, performs for children each day and there are cabarets and a live, circus-style show, the Circus Revue, at the Bakken’s Hvile music hall. Bakken is open from March to August each year and the park utilises a pay-per-ride policy.
