New York City, United States of America
About 1/4 of the gold in the world is stored underground beneath the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, more gold than in Fort Knox. It was site of the famous vault scene in the movie, The Italian Job. Standing in front of it is like standing in front of a huge fortress. The Federal Reserve gives an excellent tour, but you have to call in advance to reserve a place. They will take you down 80 feet below street level to the Gold Vault as well! Don’t even think of trying to take any. There are more security guards in the building than in an average city’s police force, and 70% of them are ranked as expert sharpshooters. 33 Liberty Street New York, New York 10005
