Finland Mountain Biking

For mountain bike park aficionados, Finland offers two excellent venues where freeriders, downhillers and cross-country pedallers can hone their skills and experience some thrills.

In Levi, 160 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, the northernmost member of the Kona Approved Bike Parks exists as part of a popular ski resort. During summer months, the resort accommodates cyclists of all types.

There are three, widely-banked, freeride specific trails, narrow, tight singletrack for cross-country riders and four gravity trails for downhillers. The vertical drop of the Levi Bike Park is 310 metres. The resort also maintains a dirt jump park designed by the Kona Clump Team, as well as a 4X course designed by the Kona Team. Any number of cross-country and backcountry trails in the Lapland countryside and forest can be accessed from the resort. There is also a gondola and cycle hire.

The Calpis Bike Park, located in Turenki, operates from the resort centre of Kalpalinna. Founded in 2003, this was Finland’s first bike park and it remains a fixture on the bike park scene because of its extensive terrain and two lift-accessed hills that offer over 20 trails for downhilling. Trails range from easy to difficult, offering even novice riders the opportunity to experience the thrill of lift-assisted riding.
