Getting to Fishers Island has to be the most dramatic and unique approach to any course in the world – a 45 minute ferry ride past a submarine facility has to be a special part of the trip all on its own. Once you are there, you will find a world top 10 ranked course filled with challenges and rewards, if you can get over the fantastic views of the ocean from every possible direction with sailboats, lighthouse and the Long Island Sound on display. Built on a tiny island only 2 miles wide and 8 miles long, many of the holes hug the coastline or feature sea views from some part of the approach. On an island of this size the wind comes into play on virtually every hole and there are few windstill days in this location.
Choosing a signature hole is almost impossible; the second to fifth rate as one of the best four-hole stretches anywhere in world golf, rivaling Pebble Beach for visual splendor and course architecture. The Cape styled 14th has to be one of the most difficult, featuring a drive over the sea to a tapering landing area after which a second shot over the water is required to reach a green set close to the coastline.
