Aguadilla, Puerto Rico
Gas Chambers spits the best tube in Puerto Rico, there are no arguments there, but it’s also notoriously inconsistent. This turns the wave into something of a Puerto Rican legend.
Gas Chambers breaks as a gnarly shorebreak over hard packed sand directly in-front of a rock wall. It’s not a beginner wave. The lip projects towards the rocks with an insane amount of force creating an oblong shaped barrel. The take-off is extremely critical and the tube is hollow and powerful like no other.
When Gas Chambers does break it will be on a meaty northeast swell and will work through all tides. It is flat all summer, but may come to life between September to March. The crowd pressure here is intense and locals rule this place staunchly. The crowd on the rock wall cheers on the tube gladiators breaking the pressure somewhat.
Puerto Rico has many of the best surf breaks in the Caribbean and is a consistent surf destination. Gas Chambers is next to Crash Boat Beach, near the town of Aquadilla, on the north side of the Island.
