Yellowstone National Park, United States of America
Yellowstone National Park is one of the world’s most famous parkland areas and is home to over 60 per cent of the world’s geysers. The most famous of these is the iconic Old Faithful.
For visitors this is one of the most fascinating places on earth to walk around as some areas are just under a very thin layer of the Earth’s crust. As geysers erupt either spontaneously or in a timed manner it is worth engaging a guide and heeding local advice to avoid getting burnt by scalding hot water.
This walk is an excellent way to appreciate the unique geology of the area and of the special features of the geysers themselves. Yellowstone National Park has many walking and back country trails with opportunities to see wildlife such as bison and bear and many different species of plant. This is the place to see the Continental Divide and some of the most magnificent scenery in the USA.
Walks vary from short routes to longer trails and there are camping sites and lodges throughout Yellowstone for visitors to use.
