Golf Club Castelconturbia

Via Suno, Italy

30 km’s outside of the fashion capital of Milan, Castelconturbia is rated as one of Europe’s finest courses. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, the club has three demanding nine hole loops, creating a number of combinations and some of Italy’s most challenging holes. The course is varied and challenging, providing breathtaking views of the distant Alps and is an essential choice on any golfing itinerary in the region. To play the layout used for the Italian Open, choose the Chestnut and Pines nines – the Oaks Nine makes up the 27 holes.

The greens are huge and particularly difficult to read, so local knowledge in the form of one of the fine caddies is an obvious advantage. Accurate approach play is essential – don’t leave yourself too many long putts here. The Pines course has two memorable holes in the 4th and 7th and it’s the latter that tests the quality of your game. At only 348 m from the back tees, it is short, but offers no short cut to the island green as the narrow dogleg left fairway is heavily wooded. A good drive will leave you with a wedge into the triangular green, get as close to the pin as possible as some positions will leave you with two breaks to the hole.
