Golf Club Le Querce

Sutri, Italy

Rome is a place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. With a history spanning two and a half thousand years and historic architecture dotting the landscape, there are a multitude of sights to see and things to do. Fortunately for golfers, Rome also has a number of great golf courses. Golf Club Le Querce is the best of these, 40 km north of Rome in the small town of Sutri. Known as The Oaks in English, the course features a number of oak-lined fairways throughout its design. The layout winds its way across pleasantly undulating countryside. From start to finish, this is as natural and scenic a test of golf as you will find in Italy, with many stretches resembling the great heathland courses of Britain and Ireland. Fairways vary in width between generous and very tight, often showing off a colourful array of wild flowers and grasses lying in wait to swallow anything hit too far off line. Expansive bunkers threaten along many fairways and around the fast and undulating greens. The best of its challenging par threes is the 9th, which appropriately features two large oaks as markers for the best line to the green. If links courses represent the best of seaside golf, then Le Querce has everything you could want from an inland course – an excellent combination of sharp-edged bunkers, rolling fairways, trees, bushes and breathtaking Italian countryside.
