Hahndorf Academy

Hahndorf, South Australia, Australia

Hahndorf Academy is one of the largest art galleries in regional South Australia and has quite a history. Built in 1839 it was first built as a school, became a boarding school in 1863 and over the years became well used by art students from Australia wide. The building was sold in 1912, after that had many uses including a betting shop, rented flats, maternity hospital to name a few. In 1960 the locals worked to protect the building now falling into disrepair and under Walter Wotzke it became the Academy and German Folk Museum. See art from local and international artists as well as museum pieces depicting the bygone days of the area. Entry is free and it is an interesting place to visit. Open 7 days from 10am to 5pm and located at 68 Main Street, Hahndorf.
