Harwich Redoubt Fort

Harwich, Essex, United Kingdom

Travel anywhere in East Anglia and you’ll see pillboxes. If you travel to Harwich you’ll certainly find the oldest and largest; the Harwich Redoubt. Built in the early 1800s, this circular fort was constructed to defend the region against potential Napoleonic invaders. Entry to the fort is £3 (in 2011) and visitors can enjoy a small museum and light refreshments. Harwich Redoubt Fort, Main Road, Harwich CO12 3LT Reviewer: Paul Bingley
