Houghton House is a Grade I listed building and a former home of Mary Sidney Herbert and the Dukes of Bedford.
Much of the original house is now open to the elements but conservation work began in 2006 to help maintain the remains of the building and open it to the public. The original staircase from Houghton House is now situated in The Swan Hotel in Bedford.
