Isle of Skye Mountain Biking

Isle of Skye, Scotland, United Kingdom

If you have never travelled north from Glasgow, as far as Wester Ross and the Isle of Skye, in search of some of the United Kingdom’s best mountain biking, you simply must pencil it into your diary for your next outdoor sporting holiday.

A multi-day journey takes you through the forest of Kinlochewe to Coulin Pass, through Gairloch for views of the Western Isles, past the high ridges of the Munro, Liathach, to the Cuillin Hills of Skye and the Sligachan Circuit, to Idrigill and the Durinish peninsula. Conclude this climbing, heart-pumping bonanza with a thrilling finish on what has been deemed the best singletrack loop in Great Britain: The Quiraing, a 12 kilometre (7.5 mile) ride that will have you rocketing down a swoopy, berm-filled ribbon of happy track that throws up a few rocky obstacles, but mainly has you charging through lush, lochy scenery. Stunning is the word most often used to describe it.

This route is not for the faint-hearted and is very physically and, at times, technically demanding. Go prepared, fit, ready for mechanicals and thrashed tyres, but mostly be ready for jaw-dropping beauty and a feast of glorious mountain biking.
