Jiaozhou Bay Bridge

Qingdao, China

Visitors to China can see the world’s longest bridge over water, the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge. It is 42.5 kilometres long, which is 26.4 miles, going from Qingdao to Huangdao, in the Jiaozhou river delta area, and also has a large intersection over the water.

More than 5,000 columns are needed for the bridge. Approximate totals for the construction of the bridge are 450,000 tons of steel and more than two million cubic metres of concrete. Compared to many large bridges around the world, Jiaozhou Bay Bridge did not take long to build as it was finished in four years.

In the future, it is expected that the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge will become the second longest bridge over water, being surpassed by a bridge that takes people from Guangdong Province to Hong Kong. Located in Shandong Province, Qingdao is very popular with tourists and has a number of unique places to visit. The Qingdao Naval Museum with its exhibitions for the Chinese People’s Navy, the first public aquarium in China the Qingdao Underwater World and the Qingdao TV Tower are popular with visitors to the area. Ferries travel from Qingdao to South Korea and Japan.
