King’s Dominion, located in Doswell, Virginia, was originally built to replace the legendary Coney Island amusement park.
One ride destined to become a legend in its own right is the Intimidator 305. The ‘305’ in this ride’s name comes from the fact that the ride’s most thrilling moment is an 85 degree drop that is over 91 metres (300 feet) tall. Top speeds on this “giga-coaster” (as it is described) exceed 144 kmph (90 mph). Besides the incredible G-forces experienced on this ride, there is also a lot of aerial time you should be prepared for, so make sure you are in good shape!
All of the live shows in this park are either music and dance driven, or have something to do with Peanuts cartoon characters. There is a particularly amazing night-time show called Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular. Not only are there fireworks (of course), but the show features over a million LED lights as well. They are synchronised with the music in such a way as to create many truly dazzling effects.
