Laem Chabang International Country Club

Chonburi, Thailand

A half hour drive from Pattaya, Laem Chabang features a 27 hole layout designed by Jack Nicklaus in the early 90’s. The course is credited as the best on Bangkok’s eastern seaboard. The course has three themed zones in its Mountain, Lake and Valley loops, of which the first two are probably the best. The Mountain nine is routed through a hilly part of the Country Club’s property. It starts strongly with a tight drive between a rocky outcrop on one side and dense forest on the other to a dogleg right fairway. The second shot plays down a manicured fairway to an elevated green which slopes right towards some unfriendly looking bunkers below it. It is bound to blow away the cobwebs right away.

The Lake nine starts off equally strongly with a garden-like tee between huge boulders to a broad fairway, which is blocked by a bunker right in front. In the middle of the fairway lies a large fairway bunker, A long drive opens up the green for the approach shot, but a conservative shot played short to the fairway will bring a greenside bunker right into play. This course is highly recommended; it is kept in excellent shape all year round and has a great diversity of holes.
