Lake Windermere

Lake District, England, United Kingdom

Lake Windermere is a very popular place for summer vacationing located smack bang in the Lake District National Park. Lake Windermere is England’s largest natural lake, there are plenty of water sports and boating opportunities to enjoy throughout the warmer months of the year.

As well as cruising out on the waters, the lake is also surrounded by ambling foothills where there are several lovely and gentle walks that you can take to really get to know the peaceful English countryside of Cumbria. There are two main towns that connect to Lake Windermere – Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere – you can arrange for lake or walking tours in both locations.

While visiting the area you may like to take a step back into the world of your literary childhood by visiting the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness-on-Windermere in the town centre. There you can learn more about the great dame of children’s writing and become reintroduced to her characters that were inspired by the Lake Windermere surrounds.
