Los Angeles Country Club

Los Angeles, California, United States of America

Bordered by Santa Monica Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard, LACC literally lies on the border of Beverley Hills, providing a greenbelt in one of the largest urban areas in the world. Just off the 13th green lies the Playboy mansion; beside another fairway you will find the 123 room palace of one of Hollywood’s most famous producers. Fittingly, the course provides a wooded parklands course which uses the natural elevation to show off the LA skyline and create interesting golf holes. The USGA is rumoured to have requested the course for the US Open or other major event and has regularly been turned down by the membership who protect the privacy of the club vigilantly.

Fairways are generous, but errant shots leaving the mowed area will be in trouble; the trees lining the holes are tall and thick. A barranca crosses a number of fairways and lies close to some greens forcing caution or risky high reward shots. The best hole on the course has to be the 11th, a reverse Redan rated as one of the finest par 3 holes in golf. From an elevated tee, the green slopes from back to front and is protected by three massive bunkers which lie tight up against the green and to the left. Directly behind it is the thick forest and the skyline of LA. It is a fine hole.
