Lucerne

Lucerne, Switzerland

I’m in love! No, it’s not a guy. And just since you’re thinking about it, it isn’t a girl either. ;) Luzern (or Lucerne depending on who you’re talking to and how strong your French/German is) is so beautiful! I got here and decided to stay 3 nights. It gives me time to explore this area and then take a day trip to Liechtenstein. The hostel is the most expensive so far, but that’s Switzerland. Everything is expensive here. They use the Swiss Franc, not the Euro. So everything seems like it costs more than it really does. The bills here are the most colorful I’ve ever seen. The coins look aluminium. Plus, they’re all the same color!   I decided to do the touristy shopping. As I walked down to the river, I almost lost my breath when I saw a massive mountain range towering over the whole town. If it weren’t so expensive here, I would never leave. Really.   I went to a bistro to have fondue. But they wouldn’t serve it for one, so I left.   They sell Swiss army knives at the hostel. It’s cheaper there than in town. If I didn’t already have one, I would have bought one. The hostel also has a cheap dinner compared to prices around town.   The internet cafes here are very expensive. And the keyboards are all messed up. Instead of “qwerty” it’s “azerty”. So I keep mistyping everything.   They do have a boat tour around the lake as well as a hot air balloon ride. I think he weather has to be just perfect for either of them to actually be able to see anything. The whole time I was there, it was either cloudy or it snowed.   I was in the tourist office in downtown Luzern. They were very helpful in giving me a map and letting me know of all of the things to do in town. I was complaining about how I had not gotten my passport stamped when I came into Switzerland by train. The guy in the tourist office actually stamped my passport for free with the Luzern Tourist office stamp, just so I could prove that I had been to Switzerland. That’s how I found most Swiss people to be. Friendly and helpful once you got to know them.
