User Rating     : 5 out of 5

Located in Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park could be the longest cave system in the world. So far close to 630 kilometres, or nearly 400 miles, of caves have been discovered, explored and mapped. There are sixteen different cave tours to choose from, including the Mammoth Passage tour that is a leisurely walk through the cave and follows the path of those who first discovered it. The Grand Avenue Tour which is a gruelling trek that goes for more than four hours, while the River Styx Cave Tour shows visitors the underground rivers and how they created the cave system.

The toughest cave tour to take on is the Wild Cave Tour, for six hours visitors climb down and crawl along areas of the Mammoth Cave system that few others get to explore. Above ground, Mammoth Cave National Park is a place for hiking and riding horses and bicycles. On the Nolin River, Green River and other waterways in the area visitors can go fishing or paddle a canoe. The Mammoth Cave Hotel is a place to stay, and also contains three restaurants, while there are also areas for camping nearby. The address is Mammoth Cave National Park, 1 Mammoth Cave Parkway, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.

If you are in the area, Mammoth Cave is a must-see! You can either do a boat tour or walking tour inside the cave. The beauty of this unique geology is unmatched, and offers you a glimpse of the longest and most extensive cave system in the world. We're very glad we took a few hours to check it out!

  2. You Don't Need to be Super Fit to Enjoy Mammoth Cave! 5 out of 5

Being a little on the unfit side I almost didn’t go to Mammoth Cave. I thought it would be for the super-fit caving types with all the right gear. Fortunately I went anyway and discovered that although there are more complicated tours for experienced cavers and those more actively inclined, there are a few easy options for those who need their natural beauty to be more accessible! The easiest level tour was well within in my capabilities and even though it wasn’t difficult, the terrain and sights I saw make it feel like I accomplished a physical challenge and it gave me the confidence to try another tour. I was also amazed, not to mention overjoyed, to discover the boat tour and recommend it to anyone – whatever their fitness ability!
