Melbourne Aquarium

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

If you’ve ever wanted to swim among the sharks, but in a controlled environment, then the Melbourne Aquarium is the place to go. People with SCUBA experience can take to the waters and swim in one of the huge tanks, surrounded by sharks, manta rays and a large assortment of fish, while other visitors look on. For those, like myself, who are more interested in staying dry while visiting, there are plenty of sea creatures to see. The shark tank is enormous and, as you walk down the passageway, they literally swim right over your head. The Aquarium houses hundreds of exotic sea creatures (and a few ordinary ones) and includes interactive displays, a touch pool and peepholes where you can view the fish from a different perspective. At the moment there is an Antarctica exhibition on display, where you can watch several species of cheeky penguins as they slip and slide around in their icy enclosure. The Aquarium is a great place to visit for people of all ages and is relatively easy to get to using Melbourne’s public transport system. Reviewer: Catherine Van Bergen
