Morocco Mountain Biking

Only a short flight from many European cities, the mysterious land of Morocco awaits you. Take advantage of its dry, arid climate to ride at the times of year when other parts of the world are still too chilly or rainy. Whether you choose a ride along the boundaries of the Sahara Desert, where unexpected, lush oases will surprise you, or a traverse of the snow-crowned Atlas Mountains or even a combination of the two, you won’t be disappointed.

Many of the guided tours available from a wide variety of companies include nights spent in ‘kasbahs’, or historic, walled villages. In a land famed for its hospitality, being served sweet mint tea in the home of a complete stranger is an accepted, even expected, event. Evenings will find you partaking of spicy, flavourfsome dishes, filled with seasoned meats and dried fruits and nuts, and interacting with your Berber hosts.

Due to the dry climate, much of the riding is on hard-packed, dirt roads and tracks. Advanced riders can find challenges in the higher mountain regions, on trails frequented by locals on mules, while novice and intermediate mountain bikers will enjoy the tamer rides that the country offers.

Remember to round out your adventure with a night in Marrakesh to explore the local markets and collect a souvenir or two of your trip of a lifetime.
