Mount Vernon Estate

Mount Vernon, Virginia, United States of America

User Rating     : 5 out of 5

This is the estate of the first president of the United States, George Washington. It sits high up on a hill overlooking the river. Just a short ride outside of Washington, D. C., Mount Vernon is a popular tourist attraction for people vacationing in Washington. The house is such a pretty place to visit. It is totally restored with the original furniture and you can also visit the slave quarters and smokehouse as well as the kitchen. The house sits on 500 acres so there is a lot of outdoors to enjoy as well, including lovely gardens. You can visit George Washington’s tomb and you can visit the museum that tells the story of George Washington’s life. You could easily spend a day at this lovely destination. Admission: $15 Mount Vernon Estate George Washington Parkway Mount Vernon, Virginia

If you like historical sites, than Mount Vernon should be on your list of stops when in Virginia. It's very beautiful inside and out, and you can really get a sense of how they they lived in those days and in what type of setting our country's early decisions were made. For us it was definitely worth the hour or two to do the tour.
