Muriwai Golf Club

Muriwai, North Island, New Zealand

Located 40 kilometers outside of Auckland, Muriwai is the regions only authentic links course. Muriwai Beach is one of Auckland’s most popular beachfronts and the course is routed close to the shoreline through linksland and a protected gannet colony on the nearby Otakamiro Point. The course is laid out between heather, pines and dunes and shows off the scenic Tasman Sea from every hole, making it reminiscent of a traditional Scottish links. Like the Scottish variety, the wind is a formidable part of the course and shows its influence from different angles throughout the course.

The 4th is the hardest hole on the course; playing into the prevailing south westerly it’s no mean feat to reach the green in two. Even then, a twenty meter putt may be waiting as this is the biggest green on the course. The long 14th is possibly the best hole on the course. An elevated tee needs a good drive to carry the hill to a downward slope lined by pines. Two fairway bunkers are well placed for a long second shot and the green is guarded by two deep pot bunkers. A par here is a great score.

The clubhouse overlooks the final hole from the highest point of the course showing off spectacular views of the surrounding area. A perfect place to reflect on your round with something cold in the hand.
