Museum of Contemporary Art

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

The Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 140 George Street right near Circular Quay and houses an extensive collection of more than 7000 pieces of contemporary art in a charming Art Deco building. The museum, which opened in 1991, is the ideal place to escape the Circular Quay crowds for a little soul food as you wander the levels of different permanent and temporary displays on show. Among the permanent acquisitions are pieces by Warhol, Hockney and Christo as well as some remarkable modern indigenous pieces. The museum is open each day from 10am to 5pm and is ideally combined with a stroll through The Rocks area and around the Opera House. There are regular visiting displays by both acclaimed Australian artists and international artists, sculptors, photographers and so on.
