The coastal town of Vilamoura is situated in the central area of the Algarve, with the perfect climate and landscape for year-round golf. The Old Course in Vilamoura remains one of Portugal’s – and Europe’s finest courses. The course is built over gently undulating terrain filled with ancient pines and it is the trees in particular that feature prominently in the look and feel of the course.
Fairways are wonderfully crafted and always tree-lined, the greens are small, particularly on the short holes. Hazards are well placed for those shots that don’t go where they were intended to. The course has an unusual mix of five par fives, giving long hitters an extra chance at birdie scores. The most difficult hole is the 8th, a 400m par four. The hole slopes downhill from the tee to well-appointed fairway bunkers and then doglegs to the right to an elevated green. Trees surround a narrow green which requires careful putting. After your round, the refined clubhouse and excellent restaurant provide the perfect place to reflect on a great golfing experience.
