Park City, Mountain Biking

Park City, Utah, United States of America

Park City may be best known for its skiing, its famous Sundance Film Festival or, perhaps, its ties with the Winter Olympics of 2002, however, it is also gaining a serious reputation for mountain biking terrain that is worth the travel to reach.

The sweet singletrack here has been ridden for decades by the locals and, in some ways, they tried to keep it a secret, indeed with good reason. But avid mountain bikers can’t help but talk about their favourite rides and so it goes, the word is out: ride Park City.

A dedicated community of trail-building enthusiasts have created sustainable, flowing ribbons of true, narrow singletrack that wind their way through the varied terrain found on the slopes of the ski mountains, as well as in the hills just outside the town proper. Quaking aspen groves and forests of Douglas fir are what you’ll pedal through at altitudes of 1,800 to 2,500 metres (6,000 to 8,000 feet). Sumptuous views of the Wasatch and Uintah mountain ranges are the reward for those willing to find their granny gear and churn, churn, churn.

Options for riding directly from the town centre are popular and even afford opportunities to do some lift-assisted downhill on the local ski mountains of Park City and Deer Valley. With trailheads readily accessible, many rides require no motorised travel to reach; that’s a real bonus!
