Peak Hill Open Cut Mine

Parkes, New South Wales, Australia

First mined in 1893, until 1917, this open cut gold mine is a great example of how these mines operated then as well as in modern times, as this mine was re-excavated from 1996 to 2002 when it became a tourist attraction. There are self-guided walks, which require a little fitness, as well as walks and viewing platforms. Entry for self-guided walks, the picnic areas and facilities are free.
