PGA de Catalunya

Girona, Spain

Nestled at the foothills of the Pyrenees on the eastern coast of Spain, Catalonia is cooler than the southern regions of Spain and very different in culture and food. The area has a number of excellent golf courses, none better than the Stadium Course at PGA de Catalunya, which is consistently ranked in Europe’s top 100 courses. This course has five separate sets of tees on every hole, dramatically changing lines and characteristics of each hole. Every hole is framed by large mature fir trees, purple heather and lush vegetation – nice to look at and horrible to have your drive end up in there. The greens are large and true, featuring tiers and large undulations and are well protected by bunkers throughout.

A number of large lakes bring water into play on the course and provide some excellent island greens. Amongst a number of spectacular holes, the par 4 13th is one of the stand-out challenges. An elevated tee allows a great line to the fairway, but the green is surrounded by water in front, behind and to the right. Irrespective of your score, this will be a memorable round. Golf here is further enhanced by a resort that functions at perfect efficiency.
