Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Playland is Canada’s oldest amusement park. Settled in Hastings Park, this park prides itself on updating or replacing a ride or two each season. Open from April to October each year, Playland is a seasonal park, but it does re-open during Halloween for Fright Nights.
Playland’s signature attraction is simply named the Coaster. Built and opened in 1958, this wooden roller coaster is an American Coaster Enthusiasts ‘Coaster Classic’. Quite the famous attraction, it made an appearance in the motion picture ‘Fear’.
Another roller coaster featured in popular movies and on television is Playland’s Corkscrew. A standard roller coaster with a Bayerncurve and double corkscrew, this is a more aggressive ride than the Coaster. In operation at Playland since 1994, Corkscrew can be seen in ‘Final Destination 3’ and the television series ‘Smallville’.
Of course with a plethora of other standard theme park rides, including a log flume with a 12 metre (40 feet) drop, and a great children’s area, Playland truly does offer fun for the entire family. If you get a chance to visit during one of the Fright Nights, it is a spookily good time!
