Pottsville Beach & Raft Race

Pottsville, New South Wales, Australia

Sitting on the far north New South Wales coast is the seaside town of Pottsville. No longer a sleepy hamlet, this is a bustling seaside town that is enjoying the influx of tourists and their tourist dollars. Staying beach-side is the best option, with ample camping and caravan parks offering water’s edge accommodation. Cabins and hotels are also scattered throughout the area and are extremely popular in summer months. Beaches that span for miles can often be enjoyed without encountering another person on your walk. On most early mornings, the water’s edge is scattered with the lone fisherman or dog walker, but it is easy to find your own private hideaway on these pristine beaches without the maddening crowds. Balmy evenings spent fossicking in the rock pools and collecting seashells is a favourite pastime for many visitors to Pottsville. The local restaurants offer many of the local fish caught in the area and plenty of fresh produce grown in the hinterland. The annual Pottsville raft race is a popular attraction for all ages, when home-made rafts are paddled along the safe waterways and estuaries surrounding the township.
