Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is the home of the largest castle in the world. From the Gothic 14th century royal palace that had to be rebuilt in the 16th century after a fire, Prague Castle today is massive and contains several palace buildings and museums. Within the castle complex there is the Saint Vitus Cathedral, the Lobkowicz Palace, several other palaces, a monastery, art galleries, museums, viewing towers, and St. George’s Basilica. This is an important castle in the Czech Republic, as it is the seat of the President, houses the Crown Jewels, historic documents and many artifacts.
If you arrive at noon you will be able to witness the changing of the guard with a royal fanfare. Climb up the South Tower for great views down over the city and river. Stroll through the lovely streets within the castle grounds, stopping for a while at St. George’s Basilica. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the small museum in the Lobkowicz Palace with its priceless collections, still owned by the family. By following their family story within their palace, you are able to also follow the story of the Czech Republic in a personal way. If you are a music lover, you can reserve your museum ticket ahead so that it includes a concert in the palace.
