Restaurants Surfing

Restaurants Surfing

Tavarua Island, Mamanucas, Fiji

The beauty of Restaurants lies in its location (within paddling distance of an idyllic tropical island), its shape (perfect) and in the fact that Restaurants is not a wave out to chomp boards or bodies.

Restaurants is a long sectionless left wrapping around the reef with ideal speed and uniformity producing a very makeable and enjoyable wave. Tube time somewhere between 10 to 15 seconds is not uncommon, but be aware the coral is still sharp underneath and cockiness will be paid for.

Restaurants is usually about half the size of nearby Cloudbreak and ideal in 3-8ft conditions. Because it is sheltered by outer reefs it is not a consistent break and needs a direct southwest swell with a good size, and southeast winds, to break it’s best. March to October is the best time to visit. Nearby is Tavarua Rights which sometimes, if the conditions are bad for both Restaurants and Cloudbreak, can be going-off.

To surf Restaurants it used to be necessary to stay at the surf camp on Tavarua Island. This is no longer the case, the wave is free to be enjoyed by anyone with boat access, which is easy to arrange from Vitu Levi, the main island of Fiji.
