Sandals Emerald Reef Golf Club

Great Exuma Island, Exuma, The Bahamas

With 365 unspoiled islands, the Exumas are considered the Riviera of the Caribbean. Designed by Greg Norman, the Emerald Reef Golf Club is built on a headland on the eastern shores on Great Exuma and is rated amongst the best courses in the Caribbean. The front nine holes are laid out between scenic mangroves and large sandy dunes and the back nine is routed along Emerald Bay’s rocky peninsula. On a day when the wind is up there is no chance of carding a good score, but the course is spectacular irrespective of the weather.

The course to have claims six signature holes, but Norman calls the short par four 4th hole his favourite. Water lies between the fairway and every one of the five tee boxes and a large tree guards the left of the fairway. Once on the generous fairway, a good approach shot to a two tiered green is required as the green is surrounded on the front, right and back by a beach-like bunker. Water lies on the left. The following is the stroke one hole on the card; at 456 m from the back tee it’s a monstrously long par four. A broad fairway is flanked on either side by large bunkers leaving a long approach shot to the green which has another three bunkers guarding its front. This is a course you will never forget.
