Secret Harbour Golf Club

Secret Harbour, Western Australia, Australia

Just a half-hour’s drive from Perth, the Secret Harbour Golf Course is fashioned amidst the beautiful backdrop of the Indian Ocean as a traditional Scottish links course. Rated in the top courses in Australia, the course has well tended undulating fairways, typical pot bunkers bounded by green fescue grass and natural rolling sand dunes. Combine this with the constant firm breeze from the ocean and you have a recipe for great links golf.

The front “Dune” nine uses the natural dunes and seaside topography for an entertaining layout with some great holes, the best of which is probably the short 8th hole. The green is wide but short surrounded with water, pot bunkers and long grass, so an accurate lofted shot is required to keep the ball on the green. The second nine is the “Links” side and shows off more pot bunkers and water. The 17th is the most memorable on the course. It’s a short par four with a wide fairway littered with bunkers and water cutting into the fairway all the way up to the green, so an accurate tee shot is imperative. The approach to the green is the crucial shot. It slopes steeply from the back to the front, tight up against the water requiring a position in front of the pin. A downhill putt here may well leave your ball in the water.
