Globe Theatre

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

London, United Kingdom

Many of Shakespeare’s plays were brought to life at the Globe Theatre. Unfortunately the original building burned to cinders in 1613 during a performance of Henry VIII, but it has been faithfully rebuilt close to the original site using authentic materials and construction methods. Between April and October each year there are performances of the bard’s work.

Under the theatre there is a fascinating exhibition about the reconstruction, Bankside theatre and Shakespeare’s London. There are also guided tours, which you can take at any time throughout the year. For a real insight into the world’s most intriguing literary figure and an accessible way of experiencing Shakespeare’s works, this is a real thrill. Being a long time Shakespeare nerd, I absolutely loved this experience, but you don’t need to be able to recite lines from Hamlet off the cuff to appreciate visiting the Globe. Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is located at 21 New Globe Walk, Bankside London.
