Silk Farm of Les Chantiers Ecoles

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Seeing the entire process of growing the mulberry tress through to the final finished silk product at the Silk Farm of Les Chantiers Ecoles in Siem Reap, is fascinating. It’s located about 16 kilometres from the town of Siem Reap but its easy and cheap to get a tuk tuk driver to take you there and wait while you browse. Alternatively there’s a three hour tour twice a day. A Cambodian welcomes you and guides you through the process from the gardens to silk worms, spinning and dying the raw silk, to weaving. You can get up close and personal to the women (mainly) weaving on their looms. The product is high quality and they are offered for sale. Buying some helps the disadvantaged as this is a training establishment.
