Kunming, China
Spring City has two of the finest golf courses in China, The Lake Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr and the Mountain Course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Both have won numerous awards since they opened in 1998. Set between two mountain ranges with the large Yang Zonghai Lake, the resort makes optimum use of a beautiful natural area and has a cool spring like climate all year round making it a prime destination for golfers. The Mountain Course is set on the high ground overlooking the resort and lake and makes good use of the elevation provided by the terrain. Supposedly drier than its Lakeside sister course, water comes into play on six of the holes, most notably on the 142m par three 8th hole where a tee shot carries a water feature to a peninsula green surrounded by water on three sides. Wind and pin conditions add to the difficulty of the hole as do the four large bunkers on either side of the green. The signature hole is the 18th uphill par four where the approach must carry a large ravine which extends to a few meters from the front of the green. The hole offers superb views of the lake and mountains from its elevated position.
