Penzance, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Just off the shore at Marazion and close to Penzance is the spectacular St Michael’s Mount – a small island topped by a magnificent castle. Visitors have two ways of gaining access to the island. One is to wait until low tide when a small causeway is uncovered over which you can walk; another is to take a small boat for a nominal fee. Once on the island, visitors can walk around the small number of fishermen’s houses that huddle at the base of the castle. The castle itself, though, is a fine example that has been fought over through the years and affords beautiful views across to Penzance and the surrounding areas.
