Statue of David

Statue of David

Florence, Italy

User Rating     : 5 out of 5

This statue is the well known adaptation of the biblical figure David as formed by Michelangelo, the famous artist. The attraction is hugely popular and a must see when passing through Florence. The long lines may be a bit off putting and it is recommended to show up early to see this attraction. Reserving tickets ahead of time for your tour is always a good idea. The guided tour was great and very informative. Our group was very surprised by the beauty and attention to detail of this well preserved piece of art. I personally wouldn’t consider myself an art nut by any means, however I still found this attraction extremely interesting and the history that goes along with the piece is remarkable. The gallery itself is a bit underwhelming; however the statue is quite impressive and is unlike anything I had ever seen.  This is definitely a must see attraction in Florence.

There are quite a few replicas of Michelangelo’s David but the original, and the best, is displayed inside the Accademia Gallery in Florence. If you want to see what all the fuss is about but you’re not into galleries head for the Palazzo della Signora where his replica overlooks the piazza, and what a man he is!

We liked both the original David and the one in the Piazza della Signora. The Piazza has many neat cafes and restaurants and has many statues in the square. I agree that it's a mist-see when visiting Florence, and that's coming from a person who's not very into statues!
