Stubai Alps Walk

Stubai Alps, Austria

In the Austrian Tyrol one of the most famous walks in the world takes in a horseshoe route of mountain huts. Walkers are treated to snow capped mountains, glacial lakes and alpine meadows carpeted in flowers to trail through as the circuit of nine huts in the Stubai Alps is completed. The walk is delightful with some parts more suited to experienced walkers and the altitude ranges between 2200 and 2700 metres.

The walk begins in Neustift set against the backdrop of the magnificent Stubai Glacier and passes waterfalls and small streams. The highest point is 2880 meters and an ice axe is advisable in early summer for part of this route. The route can be taken in either direction, and many people stay at the alpine huts on the Stubai High Route. One of the longest parts of the route is at the Innsbrucker Hutte as it leads to the Bremer Hutte and there are magnificent views to the Zillertal Alps on the 6-7 hour walk to the next stage. The walk has ridges, some roped areas and is suited to the experienced walker. At various points there are gondola lifts back to villages in this idyllic part of Austria.
